February Newsletter- Fundraising/Events Update

The Fundraising/Event Committee met after the scheduled Board of Directors Meeting on January 24, 2022. There were 13 members in attendance for this meeting, and a lot of great ideas were proposed for 2022.

The first event on the calendar will be our annual membership drive. Our application will be digital this year, and you will have the option to pay your $10 dues in person, by mail, or using Paypal/Venmo. You will have the entire month on March to continue your membership, and we encourage everyone to join!

The second event will be the inaugural benefit car show. This is an event we hope to grow into a yearly project, and we encourage everyone to participate. The car show will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2022 from 12-4 PM at Spring Park. We hope to have live music and a picnic atmosphere for our clients and the community.

We will be planning an Open House in the month of September to allow our community and elected officials to tour our facilities. The last time we were able to host an event like this was in the fall of 2019.

In the month of October, the Arc of the Shoals would like to host a sensory friendly Trunk or Treat. Laiken Mann, Rachel Lawrimore, and Dustin Phillips assisted in hosting one for the Collaborative Education Department at UNA in the Fall of 2018, and it was a huge success. People as far north as Columbia, TN traveled to the Shoals to provide their child with a calming “trick or treat” experience.

We also have our Thanksgiving Dinner on the calendar for November.

A few ideas that may make it on the calendar this year are Arc’s Got Talent, Arc’s Attic (a community yard sale), and educational opportunities in our local schools.

All of these events are geared towards serving our exceptional needs community, spreading awareness about our organization, and recruiting people to our cause. We will need all the support that we can get! So if you or your business is willing to sponsor an activity, provide live music, and/or volunteer please reach out to Dustin Phillips at dphillips@mscs.k12.al.us!
